Maria + Jon

Nearly 10 years ago, I photographed Maria for her Senior Pictures. I was over the moon when she and Jon asked me to be their wedding photographer. This was the first time I’d been asked to travel to photograph a wedding and I was stoked to go to Atlanta, a city to where I’d never been.

Morning

The bridesmaids started the day off with getting ready at a gorgeous AirBnB with a beautiful porch. Location, location, location! It was a slow burn as one-by-one everyone had their hair and makeup done. Weddings can be fast-paced days but I enjoy the slow moments where I’m able to hang out with my clients and get to know them better.

Maria wore her late grandfather’s ring, which was a beautiful touch. Maria also had gorgeous pearls in keeping with the black-and-white theme. Jon gifted Maria a necklace that she opened as she got ready. The card read, “Today I get to call you my wife.” The necklace said, “Mrs.” Maria beamed as she opened the letter and put on the necklace.

Bridesmaids

Bridesmaids know how to have fun before, during, and after a wedding. While I’m sure the groomsmen were sleeping in, these lovely ladies were brunching it up, eating charcuterie, and drinking mimosas. The matching PJs were a nice touch, too.

Afternoon

The location for the wedding — Park Tavern at Piedmont Park — was also where Jon and Maria first met. What a great way to celebrate this special occasion and see their story come full circle. The color scheme of the wedding was black and white; so classy!

Close-ups

Can we talk about how upscale a matchbox is? I loved this small-yet-meaningful takeaway and still have it at the house. I also love the current trend of using instant cameras to take pictures as a guest book. Can never have too many cameras at a wedding, amiright?

Ceremony

An outdoor wedding always comes with a little risk. What if it’s overcast? Or it rains? Well, we were lucky! The weather was stunning and the sun was shining as Jon and Maria said their vows in front of family and friends.

Evening

We took a stroll through the park and took some great photos around sunset. It was literally a trip down memory lane for them. There was no shortage of congratulations from passerby as the sun was setting. These two glowed in matrimonial bliss as we escaped the reception briefly; a small reprieve before the party got underway. As a wedding photographer, I’m so grateful for these brief moments of peace to take portraits of the happy couple.

Reception

This wedding had so many touches of love from sun up to sun down. I loved being able to hang out with the whole wedding crew and capture such tender moments. Jon and Maria’s love for each other was infused in each moment, kiss, and smile.
